Professor Patrick Nunn spent more than two decades in the Pacific Islands, researching its geology, climate, and cultural histories. In addition to his current position as Director of the Sustainability Research Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast, he is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Professor at both the University of the South Pacific and the Solomon Islands National University.

Within the last decade, Patrick has brought his experiences of Pacific Island cultures to Australia, focused largely on highlighting the depth and longevity of oral traditions, especially of memorable/catastrophic events like volcanic eruptions and post-glacial sea-level rise.
