Associate Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher

Michael’s research focuses on long-term interactions between humans, climate, disturbance (such as fire) and vegetation. Earlier this year, Michael worked with the Institute to lead submissions for the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements calling for greater investment in Indigenous land management and cultural burning as a way to prevent catastrophic bushfires.

Alongside his continuing duties in the Faculty of Science, Michael will be responsible for leading Institute initiatives that develop and foster Indigenous knowledge research, spanning graduate research programs, research themes and publication series.

Please welcome Michael to the team! To find out more about Michael’s research watch this short video or read more at his Find an Expert profile.
