Community Fellowship Grants

The Community Fellows Program is run by the Melbourne Social Equity Institute. The program aims to enable community organisations to conduct small research-related projects in collaboration with university-based researchers.

STATUS: Closed. The next round will open in 2024

About the grant scheme

The Community Fellows Program is a biennial program aiming to support research that will lead to positive outcomes such as improved service delivery, the development of new services, improved ability to advocate effectively, or the improved capacity to undertake future research projects.

Community Fellows are able to spend time at the University of Melbourne to develop research skills, with grants of $7000 made available to their community-based organisations as compensation for the time that Fellows spend working on their research projects. Fellows also receive a small research budget to enable them to undertake their research.

Projects should be relevant to the work of community-based organisations and aim to promote social equity. The Indigenous Knowledge Institute jointly supports two Fellowships for Indigenous applicants who are from an Indigenous community organisation or focusing on a topic related to Indigenous knowledges.
