Daen Sansbury-Smith is a Narungga, Kaurna and Trawlwoolway researcher, multimedia artist and Founder of Our Peoples Foundation.
His practice sits at the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, contemporary art and emerging technologies, exploring how augmented reality, film, animation, sound and digital storytelling can support Aboriginal language renewal, cultural continuity and intergenerational knowledge sharing.
Daen is undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne’s Indigenous Knowledge Institute. His practice-led research investigates how contemporary technologies can be co-designed with Aboriginal communities to document, reinterpret and share cultural knowledge in ways that are community-led, culturally appropriate and accessible for future generations.
His research examines how community-led digital practice can support the documentation, reinterpretation and sharing of cultural knowledge while respecting Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP).
Working in partnership with Elders and young people across Narungga, Kaurna and Palawa communities, he explores how creative technologies can produce living cultural resources that are accessible, evolve over time, and can continue to grow as communities contribute new knowledge across generations.
